Set Up HubLMS Membership Groups

Learn best practices for creating membership groups in HubSpot to control access to your HubLMS portal pages based on user types.

  1. Consider how you want to segment your learners or users into different buckets (e.g., prospects, customers, free tier, paid tier, blue widgets, red widgets).
  2. Create contact properties, like an "Access Type" property, to categorize users into these buckets.
  3. Understand that HubLMS provisioning typically includes one primary membership group for portal access.
  4. Navigate to Content > Memberships in HubSpot.
  5. Review the criteria for your existing membership groups (e.g., HubLMS Portal Access Beta based on HubLMS Portal Access is 'yes'). Caution: Modifying membership group criteria can significantly impact who can access your portal.
  6. To control access to specific pages based on enrollment, you can set up a membership group where the criteria are "Contact is associated to HubLMS course with a label 'enrolled'".
  7. Use the "Request access URL" on a HubLMS Course record (for "Enrolled Access" visibility) to direct users to a signup or payment page where they can qualify for access/enrollment.
  8. Ensure automation (like workflows) is set up to update contact properties or create associations based on these signup/payment actions, adding users to the appropriate membership groups or enrolling them in courses.
